RISE Assessment Week

Posted: 19-01-2026

This week at RISE we have had a focus on assessments and we couldn’t be prouder of how our pupils have approached it.

Throughout the week, pupils completed a range of assessments, including reading and maths tasks, questionnaires exploring attitudes towards school and learning and tools linked to preparation for Functional Skills exams. We also used a mixture of paper-based assessments alongside platforms such as Doodle Maths and Doodle English to give us clear and supportive baseline data.

Assessment weeks can be challenging, often bringing up worries around confidence, past experiences of learning and emotions linked to testing. Despite this, our pupils responded with maturity, understanding and a real sense of self-awareness.

What stood out most was how well pupils regulated themselves during the process. Many were able to recognise when they were feeling anxious or overwhelmed and use the emotional regulation strategies they’ve been developing with their mentors and tutors to work through those feelings. Seeing pupils pause, reset and persevere was a powerful reminder of how far they’ve come, not just academically, but emotionally too.

While assessments can feel tricky, they are an important tool for us. The information gathered helps us plan next steps, identify gaps in learning and tailor support so that each pupil’s provision continues to meet their individual needs. It allows us to support pupils more effectively, both in building confidence and in strengthening key skills over time.

We’re incredibly proud of how our pupils handled assessment week and the effort they put into every task. Their resilience, honesty and determination continue to shine through, and the insight gained will help us ensure every young person is supported to Engage. Succeed. Thrive. RISE.

"RISE AP has made a significant impact on the children who attend our school. Many students who were previously out of school are now successfully reintegrated into the classroom, even participating in afternoon sessions - something that once seemed out of reach for them.

This tailored support addresses their unique needs, helping them thrive both academically and emotionally, in a way that truly makes a difference to their overall well-being and future prospects."

"My son totally looks up to Sam and I have seen such a change in Charlie. He's happier and is coming out with me so much more at weekends now as well which is so nice! It's all thanks to Sam.

Thanks to Sam for all his help with Charlie: he really enjoys spending time with him and it benefits Charlie’s mental health so much."

I would like to thank you all for the support you have given A. Jack made such an immense difference to him last year and worked with us so well to transition A into Year 4 and to this point.  Thank you to Lucinda too and all your staff that have worked with him. I have been so impressed with your professionalism and support.
