Delivering Training for Teaching Assistants

Posted: 23-02-2026

We recently had the opportunity to deliver a CPD session at King’s Park Academy as part of their staff inset day, working with teaching assistants to explore approaches to engagement and behaviour. It was a valuable chance to share aspects of the RISE approach in a different setting, while also learning alongside another school community.

The session focused on developing a deeper understanding of behaviour through a supportive and informed lens. Staff explored the impact of trauma on the brain, including the role of adverse childhood experiences, alongside discussions around sensory integration, the PACE approach and emotion coaching. Real-life examples were used throughout to help bring these ideas into context, allowing staff to reflect on how they might apply them within their own roles.

There was a strong emphasis on understanding the ‘why’ behind behaviour and recognising the importance of emotional regulation in supporting pupils to access learning. The discussions were thoughtful and reflective, with staff engaging openly and considering how small adaptations in approach can make a meaningful difference to pupil experience and outcomes.

Opportunities like this allow us to extend the RISE approach beyond our own provision, supporting other settings to develop confidence in working with pupils who may need a more individualised and relational approach. It was encouraging to see such positive engagement throughout the afternoon and a shared commitment to supporting pupils in a way that is both consistent and compassionate.

We are pleased to be able to offer CPD opportunities for schools looking to develop their practice in this area. More information about our training packages can be found via this link, or by contacting enquiries@riseap.co.uk.

By continuing to share knowledge and collaborate with other settings, we are helping to create environments where more pupils can feel supported to engage, succeed, thrive and be part of the RISE approach.

"Thank you to Taylor for everything he has done for C, he has impacted his life in the most positive way during the most challenging time of his life. Taylor has been a lifeline for C and without him, he was at risk of Permanent Exclusion.

He now has transitioned to a specialist school and this would not have been possible without RISE's support. C will remember him forever for the most positive reasons!"

I would like to thank you all for the support you have given A. Jack made such an immense difference to him last year and worked with us so well to transition A into Year 4 and to this point.  Thank you to Lucinda too and all your staff that have worked with him. I have been so impressed with your professionalism and support.

What a success story!

"O didn't have any support other than myself to help her and was struggling to cope with life, having the opportunity to have Leila in her life has opened her mind to so much. We were extremely struggling to cope so having Leila's support has helped tremendously.

It has given me hope that not every door is shut to her and there are people out there that want to help, and she can get support that she needs. O was extremely negative about anyone being able to support her as no one had in the past so this opportunity has definitely helped her to have more faith in people and to trust the process."
