We have had a fantastic start to 2026 at RISE, with Spring 1 acting as a real credit to our pupils.
Pupils have come back after the Christmas holidays extremely settled, regulated and ready to get straight back into the rhythm and structure of their sessions. Seeing how confidently they re-engaged with routines, expectations and learning shows how much progress they have made and the safety and security they feel with their RISE mentors and tutors.
Alongside this strong return, pupils have enjoyed a wide range of enriching experiences beyond the classroom. From visiting and observing mechanics in garages, to exploring music in professional studio settings, pupils have had valuable opportunities to connect learning with real-world pathways. We’ve also loved seeing pupils engage with experts, asking thoughtful questions and deepening their understanding during visits to places such as Monkey World and the Oceanarium. These experiences have supported curiosity, confidence and aspiration, while helping pupils see how their interests can translate into future goals.
In tutoring sessions, pupils have shown huge resilience in continuing to bridge academic gaps and partake in assessment week. Furthermore, we have a few pupils who have begun preparing for their Functional Skills qualifications. There has therefore been lots of focused recap taking place across maths, reading and SPaG, which all pupils have approached with determination and perseverance. Revisiting skills, filling gaps and building confidence can be challenging, but pupils have handled this process with maturity and commitment.
As we move into the next half of term, we’re excited to start booking pupils into their Functional Skills exams which is an exciting new addition to our provision for pupils.
Supporting pupils to gain recognised qualifications is just a mere example of how we promote RISE's ethos to Engage. Succeed. Thrive. RISE. We also continue to build pupils' confidence, open up doors of opportunity, celebrate and recognise their efforts and achievements, as well as always working towards their goals and targets.
It's been a brilliant start to the year and we can't wait to see what Spring 2 term brings!

"I feel a lot more confident! Now, I can go out into the community and talk to people, like when I order my own drinks - it's something I didn’t feel brave enough to do before. I’ve also learned to understand my feelings better.
I can tell when I’m upset or stressed, and I know how to use strategies to stay calm and in the Green Zone of Regulation, so I can handle things better and feel more in control."

"The Mentor’s relationship with J and me has helped hugely. Having another adult to help has made me feel less alone in my care for J. Bridget's wealth of knowledge has been vital to us accessing services, benefits and professionals within BCP.
Also, the resources provided have been superb. I am really grateful for the care, support and kindness Bridget has provided us. Without her, we would be in a really bad place."

"The Mentor has a good relationship with R. She communicates and works well with her when she is having a bad day. There is great communication with myself- the reports are detailed and I enjoy reading them. I know RISE has greatly helped my daughter build her confidence and become a happier child."
