This week, pupils at RISE took part in Safer Internet Week, with a particular focus on the 2026 theme of artificial intelligence (AI). This provided a valuable opportunity to explore a topic that is becoming increasingly relevant in pupils’ everyday lives, with activities adapted to ensure all pupils could engage in a way that felt accessible and relevant to them personally and their age-group.
Throughout the week, pupils explored what AI is and where it appears in the world around them, from the technology they use daily to the content they see online and even the use of bots or voice assistants. Sessions encouraged pupils to ask questions, share their thoughts and develop a clearer understanding of how information is created and presented. These discussions supported pupils in beginning to think more critically about online content, recognising the importance of not always taking things at face value.
Pupils also spent time focusing on how to use technology safely and responsibly. Conversations around privacy, trust and digital footprints were woven into activities, helping pupils make links to their own experiences. There were some thoughtful discussions, with pupils sharing ideas and supporting one another to understand how their actions online can affect both themselves and others and how, even with the use of AI, it's important to understand how the information they provide can be used.
Alongside this, particularly with our older students, we explored the wider impact of artificial intelligence, considering both its benefits and its challenges. Pupils reflected on how AI can support learning and creativity, but also why it is important to use it carefully and responsibly as well as explore ethical considerations. These conversations helped pupils to develop a balanced and realistic understanding of a rapidly evolving area of technology.
We are passionate about participating in weeks such as these, as they allow pupils to explore important real-world topics in a supportive and structured way. By approaching these themes thoughtfully and adapting them to individual needs, we help pupils build confidence, awareness and the skills they need to navigate the online world safely. It is just one of the ways in which we support pupils to Engage, Succeed, Thrive, RISE.

"O didn't have any support other than myself to help her and was struggling to cope with life, having the opportunity to have Leila in her life has opened her mind to so much. We were extremely struggling to cope so having Leila's support has helped tremendously.
It has given me hope that not every door is shut to her and there are people out there that want to help, and she can get support that she needs. O was extremely negative about anyone being able to support her as no one had in the past so this opportunity has definitely helped her to have more faith in people and to trust the process."

"The Mentor’s relationship with J and me has helped hugely. Having another adult to help has made me feel less alone in my care for J. Bridget's wealth of knowledge has been vital to us accessing services, benefits and professionals within BCP.
Also, the resources provided have been superb. I am really grateful for the care, support and kindness Bridget has provided us. Without her, we would be in a really bad place."

I would like to extend my sincere thanks to you and the entire team at RISE. Your unwavering commitment to placing young people at the heart of everything you do is consistently evident, and it does not go unnoticed.
I am especially grateful for the close and collaborative working relationship we have developed. Your willingness to respond promptly and supportively whenever I have reached out regarding a young person in need has been invaluable. You have never let me down, and the level of care and support provided to the young people referred to your service has been exceptional.
RISE’s robust and comprehensive approach to safeguarding offers significant reassurance. It is clear that safeguarding is not just a priority, but a fundamental part of your practice. Knowing that a young person is in your care truly eases the weight on my shoulders as an Inclusion Officer, as I am confident that they are safe, supported, and respected at all times.
Thank you once again for your continued dedication and for the vital role you play in supporting some of our most vulnerable young people.
