Remembrance Day and Anti-Bullying Week

Posted: 11-11-2025

It has been a thoughtful and meaningful week across RISE as our pupils took part in both Remembrance Day activities and Anti-Bullying Week, engaging with maturity, curiosity and real emotional awareness.

To mark Remembrance Day, pupils learnt about the lives and experiences of soldiers during the First World War, exploring what daily life looked like on the front line and the impact the war had on individuals and families. They completed reading comprehension tasks linked to WW1 and wrote first-person diary entries, using empathy to understand the emotions and challenges faced by soldiers at the time. Alongside this, pupils also took part in a range of creative activities, including making felt poppies, designing paper wreaths, and completing poppy-themed art inspired by videos and resources they explored together. They then observed the two-minute silence with great respect and focus, demonstrating a clear understanding of why remembrance matters. The thoughtfulness and care they put into both their creative work and their discussions was truly lovely to see.

Alongside this, pupils also embraced Anti-Bullying Week with openness and confidence. They created thoughtful posters exploring themes such as kindness, friendship and the importance of standing up for others. Throughout the week, mentors and tutors supported pupils in talking about how to identify bullying, what actions we can take to stop it, and how words and behaviours can deeply impact the people around us. These conversations linked naturally to our ongoing work with the Zones of Regulation, helping pupils to recognise emotional responses, develop self-awareness and practise healthy, respectful communication.

It has been inspiring to see our pupils engage so fully with two important themes, both of which sit closely with our values at RISE of Engage. Succeed. Thrive. RISE. Their willingness to learn, reflect and show compassion has been a real credit to them and we are incredibly proud of how they continue to demonstrate emotional maturity and resilience in their learning.

"RISE AP has made a significant impact on the children who attend our school. Many students who were previously out of school are now successfully reintegrated into the classroom, even participating in afternoon sessions - something that once seemed out of reach for them.

This tailored support addresses their unique needs, helping them thrive both academically and emotionally, in a way that truly makes a difference to their overall well-being and future prospects."

I would like to extend my sincere thanks to you and the entire team at RISE. Your unwavering commitment to placing young people at the heart of everything you do is consistently evident, and it does not go unnoticed.

I am especially grateful for the close and collaborative working relationship we have developed. Your willingness to respond promptly and supportively whenever I have reached out regarding a young person in need has been invaluable. You have never let me down, and the level of care and support provided to the young people referred to your service has been exceptional.

RISE’s robust and comprehensive approach to safeguarding offers significant reassurance. It is clear that safeguarding is not just a priority, but a fundamental part of your practice. Knowing that a young person is in your care truly eases the weight on my shoulders as an Inclusion Officer, as I am confident that they are safe, supported, and respected at all times.

Thank you once again for your continued dedication and for the vital role you play in supporting some of our most vulnerable young people.

"The Mentor’s relationship with J and me has helped hugely. Having another adult to help has made me feel less alone in my care for J. Bridget's wealth of knowledge has been vital to us accessing services, benefits and professionals within BCP.

Also, the resources provided have been superb. I am really grateful for the care, support and kindness Bridget has provided us. Without her, we would be in a really bad place."
