A little while ago, we shared that RISE would soon be taking part in the Junior Duke Award: a programme designed to help young people build confidence, independence and practical life skills. If you missed that, you can read more about it in our previous post linked here.
Since then, things have moved very quickly. Our team has now completed the official Junior Duke training, so we’re fully prepared to deliver the programme and guide pupils through each stage. Even better, the booklets have arrived and they’ve already created a real sense of excitement across the provision.
At RISE, we want pupils to take ownership of their learning, not just rely on encouragement from staff. The Junior Duke Award supports that beautifully. It gives pupils clear goals, encourages them to persevere and helps them recognise their own progress as they grow in confidence and independence. By getting the optional booklets, we strongly felt that they were important for pupils to have a physical copy they can hold, annotate and keep. Being able to see their progress build page by page makes the work feel more tangible and it adds an extra layer of motivation and pride as they move through their tasks.
Our pupils are already brainstorming ideas, talking through challenges and planning out how they’ll earn their awards. Each young person will begin at the level suited to their age, and as a whole provision we’ll be working together, motivating each other, staying accountable and celebrating each milestone along the way to Engage. Succeed. Thrive. RISE.
We’re excited to get started and judging by the fact that activities are taking place as we speak, the pupils are too.

I would like to extend my sincere thanks to you and the entire team at RISE. Your unwavering commitment to placing young people at the heart of everything you do is consistently evident, and it does not go unnoticed.
I am especially grateful for the close and collaborative working relationship we have developed. Your willingness to respond promptly and supportively whenever I have reached out regarding a young person in need has been invaluable. You have never let me down, and the level of care and support provided to the young people referred to your service has been exceptional.
RISE’s robust and comprehensive approach to safeguarding offers significant reassurance. It is clear that safeguarding is not just a priority, but a fundamental part of your practice. Knowing that a young person is in your care truly eases the weight on my shoulders as an Inclusion Officer, as I am confident that they are safe, supported, and respected at all times.
Thank you once again for your continued dedication and for the vital role you play in supporting some of our most vulnerable young people.

"O didn't have any support other than myself to help her and was struggling to cope with life, having the opportunity to have Leila in her life has opened her mind to so much. We were extremely struggling to cope so having Leila's support has helped tremendously.
It has given me hope that not every door is shut to her and there are people out there that want to help, and she can get support that she needs. O was extremely negative about anyone being able to support her as no one had in the past so this opportunity has definitely helped her to have more faith in people and to trust the process."

"The Mentor has a good relationship with R. She communicates and works well with her when she is having a bad day. There is great communication with myself- the reports are detailed and I enjoy reading them. I know RISE has greatly helped my daughter build her confidence and become a happier child."
