This week was test week and it's safe to say that we’re incredibly proud of the way our pupils have adapted and responded - whether they’re sitting exams themselves or simply experiencing the ripple effects of changes in routine across their school day.
Exam arrangements brought a change of routine and structure to some pupils routines as well as causing feelings of anxiety and facing many fears, but across the board, we’ve seen resilience shining through. Our pupils have shown patience, flexibility, and determination, handling the pressures and changes with maturity beyond their years.
While academic assessments are a key focus for tutors right now, mentors have been continuing their core work around emotional literacy. Understanding our emotions and how to manage them is essential, especially at this time of year. Pupils have been exploring how to name and recognise emotions, learning to connect them with triggers and circumstances, and most importantly, developing healthy coping strategies to manage big feelings when they arise.
Alongside this emotional learning, our mentoring and tutor sessions have remained full of connection and creativity. From cooking sessions that teach practical life skills to using knowledge and teamwork in fun challenges like virtual escape rooms, our pupils are not only learning - they’re thriving.
These activities help build strong, trusting relationships between pupils and staff, which is exactly what enables them to feel safe, supported, and ready to face whatever comes their way.
We're so proud of each and every one of them - for engaging, for persisting, and for showing us what it means to Engage, Succeed, Thrive and RISE.

"O didn't have any support other than myself to help her and was struggling to cope with life, having the opportunity to have Leila in her life has opened her mind to so much. We were extremely struggling to cope so having Leila's support has helped tremendously.
It has given me hope that not every door is shut to her and there are people out there that want to help, and she can get support that she needs. O was extremely negative about anyone being able to support her as no one had in the past so this opportunity has definitely helped her to have more faith in people and to trust the process."

"M has built a great relationship with his mentors especially Jack out of all his mentors and tutors from another AP. Jack has helped M build a trusted relationship and understanding manner.
M has had a positive outcome and enjoys taking part which he didn’t previously and anxiety/communicating, which has really come on since working with Jack. Communication with myself is excellent. Jack has a very understanding kind and great approach, who is a trusted adult. My son feels comfortable with and someone who understands and reassures."

"The Mentor’s relationship with J and me has helped hugely. Having another adult to help has made me feel less alone in my care for J. Bridget's wealth of knowledge has been vital to us accessing services, benefits and professionals within BCP.
Also, the resources provided have been superb. I am really grateful for the care, support and kindness Bridget has provided us. Without her, we would be in a really bad place."
