Graduation from RISE Alternative Provision to College: A Journey of Confidence Rebuilding and Resilience

Posted: 20-06-2025

The belief that every young person's journey back into education deserves care, patience and tailored support, is central to everything we do at RISE Alternative Provision. For WFP, this journey has been about rebuilding confidence, overcoming anxiety, and preparing for a meaningful new start at college. His story reflects our core values: Engage, Empower, and Thrive.

Engaging Again: Rebuilding Trust and Routine

WFP had been out of school for an extended period and spent much of his time at home due to significant anxiety. This created a gap not only in academic learning but in daily routines and confidence too. When WFP joined us, our first priority was engagement - creating a safe, structured space where he could begin to re-establish trust in education and feel secure in his surroundings.

Through the consistent support of his mentor and tutor, WFP began to re-engage. This phase focused not only on academic catch-up but, crucially, on addressing the emotional needs that had previously made school environments overwhelming for him.

Empowering Progress: Bridging Gaps and Building Confidence

With careful planning and encouragement, WFP began to take steady steps forward. His mentor played a central role in helping him rebuild confidence, develop coping strategies, and gradually adjust to learning beyond the home environment. One of WFP's most significant milestones wasreaching the point where he felt confident enough to go outdoors and even learn in public spaces. This marked a major personal breakthrough - an achievement that reflected not only his growing sense of self-belief but also the depth of trust he had built with his mentors. It was a powerful reminder of the impact consistent and personalised support can have on our young RISE pupils.

This stage wasn’t just about preparing for college, but helping WFP reclaim his sense of independence, capability, and hope for the future.

Thriving and Final Thoughts: A Confident Step Into College

WFP is now preparing to begin college in September: an incredible milestone that reflects not only his academic progress but, more importantly, his emotional growth and resilience. The support provided at RISE AP, combined with the belief and commitment of his mentor, has enabled WFP to access education again with confidence and clarity.

His ability to manage new environments, engage with learning, and take ownership of his next steps is exactly what we hope to nurture in every young person we work with.

At RISE, we believe that thriving is not just about outcomes but about the journey taken to get there and WFP’s story is a powerful example of what’s possible when the right support is in place.

BCP School Inclusion

Posted: 12-06-2025

I would like to extend my sincere thanks to you and the entire team at RISE. Your unwavering commitment to placing young people at the heart of everything you do is consistently evident, and it does not go unnoticed.

I am especially grateful for the close and collaborative working relationship we have developed. Your willingness to respond promptly and supportively whenever I have reached out regarding a young person in need has been invaluable. You have never let me down, and the level of care and support provided to the young people referred to your service has been exceptional.

RISE’s robust and comprehensive approach to safeguarding offers significant reassurance. It is clear that safeguarding is not just a priority, but a fundamental part of your practice. Knowing that a young person is in your care truly eases the weight on my shoulders as an Inclusion Officer, as I am confident that they are safe, supported, and respected at all times.

Thank you once again for your continued dedication and for the vital role you play in supporting some of our most vulnerable young people.

"M has built a great relationship with his mentors especially Jack out of all his mentors and tutors from another AP. Jack has helped M build a trusted relationship and understanding manner.

M has had a positive outcome and enjoys taking part which he didn’t previously and anxiety/communicating, which has really come on since working with Jack. Communication with myself is excellent. Jack has a very understanding kind and great approach, who is a trusted adult. My son feels comfortable with and someone who understands and reassures."

The RISE Team provided well prepared, high quality and engaging PACE training to staff who work with children aged 3-11. Staff commented on how useful the real life examples were and how these supported them to apply this training in our school environment. The RISE Team worked with leaders before delivering the training which meant we could adapt it to the needs of our school. I have seen many of the strategies being used in school which has lead to the prevention of escalations. Overall,  highly effective training!
