Graduation from RISE Alternative Provision: A Journey of Growth, Support, and Success

Posted: 13-06-2025

At RISE Alternative Provision, we believe in the power of personalised support and meaningful reintegration. Every young person has their own path to success and, for CM, that journey has been shaped by personal growth, emotional development, and renewed confidence.

CM had been out of education for an extended period, having found mainstream school environments overwhelming and struggling to attend as a result. When he joined RISE AP, our focus was on re-engaging him with learning through tailored support as well as ensuring a safe place for him to learn and feel comfortable in. We centred our work around his social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs, using evidence-based interventions to build coping strategies, strengthen emotional regulation, and develop resilience.

We are proud to share that CM has now successfully graduated from RISE and made a confident transition into education at Quay Medical School. This significant milestone reflects the heart of our values: Engage, Empower, and Thrive.

Engage: Rebuilding Trust and Reconnecting with Learning

The early phase of CM’s journey was about re-engagement. Our aim was to help him feel safe, understood, and ready to take small steps back into the rhythm of learning.

Starting with 1:1 support, CM gradually rebuilt his confidence in a calm and nurturing environment. As he progressed, we carefully introduced small group work to help him navigate social settings, supported further by the structure of our Lighthouse space—designed to offer a bridge between individual support and wider peer interaction.

This stage was not rushed. It was about building relationships, routines, and restoring CM’s belief that learning could be positive and manageable.

Empower: Building Confidence Through Steady Progress

Once re-engaged, CM began to take meaningful steps forward. Success wasn’t measured just by academic milestones; it was about emotional growth, resilience, and the ability to cope with challenges that previously felt overwhelming.

With tailored interventions and consistent staff support, CM developed strategies to regulate his emotions, communicate his needs, and gradually increase his participation in learning activities. Each small success, such as joining a group session, managing transitions, engaging in academic learning, was celebrated as evidence of his growing self-belief and confidence.

Thrive: Looking Ahead with Confidence and Strength

CM’s transition to Quay Medical School marks an important next step in his education. His progress extends beyond academics to emotional and social growth. With the support of his mentor, CM has developed vital tools, including self-awareness, emotional resilience, and the confidence to learn alongside others. He now understands his needs, can advocate for himself, and is well equipped to manage social situations and access learning in a mainstream setting. These are the foundations we aim to build at RISE, enabling every young person to truly thrive.

Final Thoughts: The importance of correct support

CM’s story reminds us that re-engagement takes time, patience, and belief. His successful reintegration into education was made possible through targeted SEMH support, a carefully paced and planned journey, and the unwavering belief of his mentor, Sam, who supported him every step of the way.

At RISE AP, we continue to champion the idea that every student deserves the opportunity to thrive - not despite their challenges, but because of the strength they develop in overcoming them. CM’s journey is a powerful example of what’s possible when the right support is in place: pupils can Engage, Succeed, and Thrive.

School CPD Feedback

The RISE Team provided well prepared, high quality and engaging PACE training to staff who work with children aged 3-11. Staff commented on how useful the real life examples were and how these supported them to apply this training in our school environment. The RISE Team worked with leaders before delivering the training which meant we could adapt it to the needs of our school. I have seen many of the strategies being used in school which has lead to the prevention of escalations. Overall,  highly effective training!

"The Mentor’s relationship with J and me has helped hugely. Having another adult to help has made me feel less alone in my care for J. Bridget's wealth of knowledge has been vital to us accessing services, benefits and professionals within BCP.

Also, the resources provided have been superb. I am really grateful for the care, support and kindness Bridget has provided us. Without her, we would be in a really bad place."

"I feel a lot more confident! Now, I can go out into the community and talk to people, like when I order my own drinks - it's something I didn’t feel brave enough to do before. I’ve also learned to understand my feelings better.

I can tell when I’m upset or stressed, and I know how to use strategies to stay calm and in the Green Zone of Regulation, so I can handle things better and feel more in control."
