Graduation from RISE Alternative Provision to Lionworks' School: A Journey of Growth, Support, and Success

Posted: 28-03-2025

At RISE, we celebrate every student's unique journey, especially when it comes to reintegration and growth. One such remarkable story is that of TJ, who has successfully graduated from RISE Alternative Provision (RISE AP) into the Lionworks School community. TJ's journey has been transformative, marked by a strong focus on Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH), and is a true testament to the values of Engage, Succeed, and Thrive.

A Fresh Start: From RISE Alternative Provision to Lionworks School

For a long time, TJ faced challenges that kept him out of school. His emotional and mental health needs required careful attention, and his reintegration into education seemed like a distant goal. That’s where RISE Alternative Provision stepped in. RISE AP is a specialised program designed to support students with SEMH needs, providing a safe and nurturing environment to help them address their challenges while re-engaging with education.

During his time at RISE AP, TJ received tailored support that focused on emotional well-being, developing social skills, and managing the stress and anxiety that had previously kept him from attending school. The dedicated staff at RISE AP worked closely with TJ to rebuild his confidence and mental resilience, laying the foundation for a smooth transition into a mainstream school setting.

Engaging with Education: The First Steps Toward Reintegration

The journey of reintegration began with engagement. One of the most crucial aspects of TJ's transition was ensuring he felt supported and safe in the school environment. This period of engagement allowed TJ to reconnect with education in a way that worked for him.

Succeeding Through Small Steps: Achieving Academic and Personal Growth

The next stage of TJ's journey was all about succeeding. Success wasn’t just about academic progress—it was about TJ feeling empowered to take on new challenges and recognize his own growth, both personally and academically. With the support of RISE AP, TJ set small, achievable goals that helped him build momentum and see the results of his hard work.

In this environment, TJ was encouraged to celebrate even the smallest victories, whether it was improving his attendance, participating in a group discussion, or completing a challenging assignment. Each of these successes was acknowledged, boosting his confidence and reinforcing the belief that he was capable of achieving great things.

Thriving: A Bright Future Ahead

The final chapter of TJ's journey at RISE is about thriving. The skills he has developed at RISE AP, combined with the nurturing support at Lionworks, have empowered him to become a confident, independent learner who is ready to take on future challenges with resilience and determination. The focus on SEMH continues to be a crucial part of TJ's growth as he learns to manage his emotions, build healthy relationships, and maintain a positive outlook on his academic journey.

TJ’s thriving is not just about excelling academically—it’s about the emotional strength he has built through his experiences. He is now better equipped to handle stress, setbacks, and social situations that once seemed insurmountable. His self-awareness and emotional regulation skills have flourished, enabling him to thrive not only in school but also in his personal life.

One of the key areas in which TJ has thrived is his involvement in the school community. He has become more social, participating in group activities, forming friendships, and contributing positively to the school environment. His journey of reintegration has shown that when a student’s emotional and mental health needs are supported, they can go on to achieve great things, both inside and outside the classroom.

The Power of Support: RISE AP and Lionworks School Working Together

TJ’s graduation from RISE Alternative Provision into Lionworks School illustrates the power of collaboration, support, and understanding. With a clear focus on SEMH, TJ’s transition was carefully planned and supported by RISE AP. This allowed TJ to take the necessary steps toward re-engagement, success, and thriving in a way that was meaningful for him.

TJ’s story is an inspiring reminder that with the right support, every student can overcome their challenges and unlock their full potential. It’s not just about academic achievement—it’s about emotional growth, building resilience, and creating an environment where every student can feel valued, engaged, and empowered.

The RISE Team provided well prepared, high quality and engaging PACE training to staff who work with children aged 3-11. Staff commented on how useful the real life examples were and how these supported them to apply this training in our school environment. The RISE Team worked with leaders before delivering the training which meant we could adapt it to the needs of our school. I have seen many of the strategies being used in school which has lead to the prevention of escalations. Overall,  highly effective training!
